1972 Hall of Famer Duke Abbruzzi was honored by the Rhode Island Baseball Coaches Association at a dinner that was held at the Italian-American Club on Kelly Street. In 1971 Duke's wild card entry Rogers downed previously unbeaten Barrington two games to one to win the State Championship; both finalists were members of the Eastern Division.
