1950 The Young (Slick) and the Old (Nick) Cariglias, both members of the Athletic Hall of Fame, played for State Championship high school baseball teams. Nick also starred for the 1942 Providence College nine that won the Eastern Collegiate Summer Championship, but Slick one-upped his older brother, playing for the 1952 Holy Cross team that captured the NCAA National title.

1951 William "Harpo" Tavares, U.S. Army Baseball, West Germany. Harpo, an All State catcher, played for Warren High's State Championship squads of 1945 and 1946. He is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame.

1952 The Ellis Buick-Asselin Chevrolet Yankees were the first championship Little League Baseball team. Pictured were Coach Larry Larivee, Jim "Shoes" Abbruzzi, John "Mouse" Jannitto, Peter Guimelli, Ed Galuska, Joe Lamarca, Ray Rossi, Pete MacDougall, Kenny Ferreira, Fred Dyer, George "Chico" Andrade, Bobby Bento, John Lamora, Walt Nencka, Mickey O'Brien and Manager Hubert "Ditty" Drainville. With the Main Street School in the background, the team stood on the Water Street park's outfield grass. (This beautiful park, once the town dump, was later named in memory of Fred Jannitto Sr., who served as the league president from 1954 to 1968.) (Andrade, Drainville, both Jannittos, and MacDougall are members of the Athletic Hall of Fame.)

1952 Jim Barry took batting practice for Class A Lima, Ohio. (This was the year that Jim "emulated" Chit Beauregard, returning to first base without touching second; "for some reason," the base umpire called him out.) Jim was an All State outfielder for Warren High in 1946 and 1948; due to problems caused by youthful exuberance, he did not play in 1947. (Barry and Beauregard are members of the Athletic Hall of Fame.)

1952 Robert "Buzz" Barry was the Maine-New Brunswick Baseball League's second leading hitter while playing for Grand Falls. As Warren High's second baseman, Hall of Famer Buzz was named to the 1948 All State squad.

1953 Paul Harvey, Warren High All State halfback, scored four touchdowns and threw for another (to his brother Ram) in a thirty-two point shutout of Barrington. He is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame.

1953 Pat Abbruzzi was shown in this Providence Journal's Frank Lanning caricature. A Small College All American, Hall of Famer Pat was voted Rhode Island's Outstanding Italo-American Athlete of the Year for both 1953 and 1954.

1954 Pat Abbruzzi of the University of Rhode Island was named Rhode Island Athlete of the Year for 1954. The next year, while playing for the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes, he was named both the League's Schenley Player of the Year and the Back of the Year. He is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame.
