1954 Pat Abbruzzi of the University of Rhode Island was named Rhode Island Athlete of the Year for 1954. The next year, while playing for the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes, he was named both the League's Schenley Player of the Year and the Back of the Year. He is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame. (Along with fellow Warrenites Luther Blount, Rip Higgins, Chief Massasoit, Charlie Millard, and Lizzie Murphy, Pat is a member of the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the Rhode Island Interscholastic Hall of Fame.)
