Bridgette King McPhillips (Class of 2012)

Bridgette King was a member of the Mary V. Quirk Girls Cross Country teams that won Junior High School Divisional and State Championships in both 1974 and 1975.  She placed in the top three in the state in both of those years.

In outdoor track Quirk captured the 1975 state title, and Bridgette was tops in the state in the 880, the 440 relay, and the mile relay.

As a gymnast her 1974 and 1975 teams won the State Junior High School Gymnastics Championships, and Bridgette placed 1st in all-around, vault, and uneven bars at the advanced level.  In the first of those two years she was also a cheerleader for the Pop Warner Pee Wees football squad.

At Warren High School she earned All Small School honors and All State honorable mention while competing in the 880, the mile, and the mile relay.

Many adults who were then youngsters fondly remember Bridgette serving as the Recreation Board’s co-instructor in gymnastics during multiple summer sessions in the late 1970s.  Her appointment to this position partially reflected the fact that she had earned first team All Eastern Division honors during her senior year of high school.

Bridgette was voted the Most Athletic Girl in the Class of 1978 and was nominated by Warren High School for the Providence Journal-Bulletin Honor Roll Girl award in that same year.

In her adult years she has continued running competitively.  Within her age group Bridgette has placed in the top ten in the Run Up Mount Washington, the Marine Corps Marathon, and the Philadelphia Marathon.  And she finished very high in her Boston and New York City Marathon age groups.
