LOUIS J. PALMIERI, JR. (Athlete, Class of 2003)

Lou Palmieri was named the National Guard’s Most Outstanding Rhode Island Rifleman in 1963.  In the following year he led Warren’s Company D in scoring as that team won the Guard’s state target shooting title.

President of the Warren Rod and Gun Club for a number of years in the 1970s, Lou also served as a Rhode Island hunter safety instructor in that decade as well as in the 1980s.

He won Rhode Island skeet shooting championships in 1972, 1978, and 1984.  On the national and world stages he captured the 1980 United States 28-Gauge title and was a member of the 1988 World five-man championship team.  This latter unit set a world record in achieving its win.

In trap shooting Lou won eight Rhode Island titles between 1983 and 2003.  And, not stopping at the state line, he captured the World Class C Doubles title in 1992.  (“Doubles” involves one shooter trying to hit two targets sent simultaneously into the air.)  He also won the Eastern Division Class A Singles Championship in 2002.

A winner of more than thirty trap shooting titles during his career, Lou, like his wife and fellow Hall of Fame member Arlene, has frequently been a member of the Rhode Island Trap Shooting team
