BOB PROULX (Athlete, Class of 2016)

Like many of Warren’s youth, Bob Proulx got his start in organized sports as a member of the Warren Little League. In 1967, Bob was named Warren Little League’s Most Outstanding Boy.

By the time Bob got to high school, he had matured as a football player. During his time at Warren High School, Bob became one of Pat Abbruzzi’s top players. The culmination of his high school football career came in 1972.

In 1972 Bob was named 1st All Class C Offensive/Defensive Back. His outstanding play (10.2 yd. rushing average, 5 touchdowns, 15 pass receptions for 244 yards, and 4 touchdowns on offense-6 interceptions on the defensive side of the ball) helped propel the 1972 team to the Class C Championship. The team also compiled a perfect record for the season.

After high school Bob became a member of the Jamiel Shoe team in the highly competitive Warren Men’s Softball League. He was the MVP in the Nick Cariglia Tournament in 1974.  Bob was named to the All Star Team  twice. He left the Jamiel’s Shoe team in 1975 and joined fellow Hall of Famers Mert Caton, Butch Lombardi and Jim McMahon in the Old Ironsides outfield. Bob left the area for a job in the Midwest but returned in the mid 80’s and picked up right where he left off.  Bob initially played for Kenny’s Auto Body in 1986.  In 1988 New England Tool finished 9th in the USSSA Class D Regionals. In 1989 New England Tool would win The Rhode Island Class D Championship and be named Rhode Island Team of the Year. In 1990 Bob’s New England Tool Team would finish the season ranked 7th in the Nation. Bob joins his son, Jason, as a member of the Warren Athletic Hall of Fame.
