Ken McPhillips (Coach, Class of 2024)

Ken earned his stripes by playing football for Pat Abbruzzi on the 1973 WHS Class C Champs and the WHS Undefeated Class B Small Champions of 1974.  Along the way he earned 1st All Class B Small Guard honors in 1974.

From 1979 thru 1982 Ken played in Both the Bristol County League and Rhode Island League Flag Football teams made up of local players that also won two championships in RI.

The highlight of Ken’s playing career was playing in the Eastern Football League. (America’s oldest semi-pro football league).  He played from 1983 thru 1989 on the RI Rhinos/Warren Whalers teams as an offensive linemen.  Teams traveled all over New England to play mostly on weekends.   He was named All EFL Offensive Guard in 1985 and 1986.

Ken served as a Football Offensive Line Coach for Pop Warner Warren/Swansea Team from 1987-2003.  His teams were the Northeast RI Midgets State Champs of 1990, state finalist in 1992, and RI State and Northeast RI Midget Champs 2000.

As a Soccer Youth Association Board Member/Secretary/Assistant Coach from 1995-2004, Ken helped coach the U14 Girls to the Barrington Invitational Championship, 2002, and the Portsmouth Invitational Championship in 2003.  At the Swansea Multiplex Indoor his team won the U-10-B Girls Championships in 1996 and 1997.

Ken coached Summer League in 1996 and School Indoor League from 1996-1998.

In his spare time, Dr. McPhillips, can be found tutoring students in math, physics and economics, as well as preparing students for the SAT
