ANGELO MARINO (Athlete, Class of 2000)

Angelo Marino attained All State recognition in both football and wrestling while at Warren High School and then was named the Most Outstanding Athlete at Worcester (Massachusetts) Academy.

An All Eastern offensive tackle for Warren High School’s 1965 football eleven, Angelo co-captained the 1966 squad to a Class D co-championship.  He was named an All Class D and All State tackle in that season.

In 1966 he also captained the Warren High School wrestling team to the Suburban East Co-Championship and personally won the Rhode Island Unlimited Championship before placing second at the New England Championships.  (He had placed third at the state championships in his sophomore year.)  The 1967 squad of which Angelo was a co-captain only finished fourth in Suburban East, but then surprised everyone by placing five grapplers (including Angelo) in the state semi-finals.  He also reached the semi-finals of the New England Championships.

Angelo competed for the Warren High track team in the spring of 1967 and was named All Class D in the hammer throw.

He then enrolled at Worcester Academy where he was the football team’s co-captain, placed second in the New England Prep School wrestling unlimited weight category, and received the Harold W. Presson Award as the Academy’s Most Outstanding Athlete for 1967-1968.

At Harvard University he competed in both football and wrestling.  Returning to Warren he was an assistant coach for the Pop Warner Football PeeWees in 1972 and 1973.
