BRIAN HUTCHISON (Athlete, Class of 2005)
In his senior year at Warren High School, Brian Hutchison was named first team All Class B Small in football and first team All Suburban East in wrestling, the second year in a row that he had earned this latter honor. He was also twice named a Suburban East Wrestling All Star at 155 pounds and helped lead the Redskins to the 1979 Suburban East Co-Championship.
He captured the New England AAU Junior Olympic Freestyle Wrestling Championship in both 1977 and 1978 and was named the Massachusetts Wrestling Federation’s Outstanding Wrestler in 1979.
Brian was then the 1980 and 1981 New England AAU Freestyle Wrestling Champion at 165 and 163 pounds, respectively.
At Rhode Island College, he twice captained the wrestling squad and earned All New England Division Three honors on two occasions; in his senior year, he was named the school’s Most Valuable Wrestler. In 1991, as a member of the Roger Williams College wrestling team, Brian captured the New England Club Heavyweight title.
He coached the Mount Hope High School wrestling team in 1996, leading the Huskies to a third place finish at the state championships, and then served as the assistant coach at Kickemuit Middle School in 2002 and 2003. The following season he returned to Mount Hope as the head wrestling coach, a position he holds to this day.
Brian’s brother Bruce and father Sam are also members of the Hall of Fame.
