CARRIE HICKS ROLLINS (Athlete, Class of 2005)
Warren High School’s Journal-Bulletin Honor Roll Girl nominee in 1993, Carrie Hicks earned All State honors in slow-pitch softball in both her junior and senior years.
In her sophomore season, she was a member of the school’s undefeated Class C slow-pitch softball champions. Then, in her final year of basketball competition, she led the lady Redskins to the Class C Tournament championship, after they had finished second in the regular season. In the playoffs they edged Shea before downing Exeter/West Greenwich, 47-43, in double overtime, in the finals. Carrie notched nineteen points, snared twenty-four rebounds, tallied five of her team’s last points, and was named the tourney’s Most Valuable Player. Per Coach Marissa Lopes, “Carrie, in the clutch, will always be there.”
She then topped off her high school career by hitting .514 for Warren High’s last championship team ever, the 1993 Class B Two slow-pitch softball titlists who swept their class competition of Bristol, Central, Cranston West, North Providence, Shea, and Tolman. The assistant coach of both the 1991 and 1993 softball champions was fellow Hall of Fame member Beth Penkala.
Carrie earned All Class honors in softball in all four high school seasons and in basketball was named All Class C in both her junior and senior years.
Following high school, she enrolled at Elmira College, where she played on the school’s women’s basketball five for three seasons.
