DANIEL THIELMAN (Athlete, Class of 2019)
Wrestling was Dan’s first claim to athletic fame. Between 1989 and 1994, he helped lead his wrestling teams to four State Championships and three New England titles. Dan was a member of the Bristol/Warren team that travelled to Berlin in 1994. In 1994, team captain Thielman won 1st All State and 1st Class A-One honors, while wrestling at one hundred and thirty pounds.
During his senior year at Mt. Hope High School, Daniel joined the track team and ran Cross Country serving as captain for the first Mt. Hope track team. At Division One University of Hartford, he broke school track records in the 800 and 4 by 400 relay.
Now a member of the Corinthian Yacht Club in San Francisco, Dan was named Sailor of the Year in 2012. He was named the North American Sailing Champion, the Rolex Big Boat Series Champion, and the Long Beach Sailing Champion. Currently Dan is competing in the Sailing World Championship.
Daniel Thielman was inducted into The Bristol Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.
