DONALD BAXTER, D.O. (Contributor, Class of 2006, Posthumous)
Donald Baxter’s involvement in Warren athletics spanned four decades, from the forties to the seventies.
Soon after the end of World War Two, he served as the doctor for the Warren Football Townies, who included fellow Hall of Fame members Johnny Abbruzzi, Ace Boulanger, Ben Ferrazzano, and Henry Correia (manager).
When the Warren Midget Football League began play in 1958, Doc stepped forward and served as both an assistant coach (with the Redskins) and the league doctor. For many years thereafter he wore multiple hats, including those of coach, doctor, and board member.
In the late 1960s he was named the Warren school doctor, a position that he held for the next four or five years. He added this responsibility to his previous role as the physician to Pat Abbruzzi’s Warren High School football teams, who captured three championships while Doc was ministering to their cuts and bruises.
