JIMMY KING (Athlete, Class of 2002)

Named to the United States Drag Racing Hall of Fame (with his partner Don Marshall) in 2002, Jimmy King raced throughout the United States in the 1960s and 1970s.  Early in his career he won drag races in such events as the Connecticut Dragway Class Double A feature and the Long Island Smoker’s Meet.

In 1970 he took his performance to a new level when he was victorious at the American Hot Rod Association (AHRA) Nationals.  A year later he was the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Gator Nationals Champion and a winner in the East versus West Drag Race Challenge.

From 1967 to 1971 he and Marshall were continually named the Eastern Region’s most popular drag racers.

Jimmy’s times in the Funny Car and Dragster categories still rank among the nation’s best.
