WARREN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM 1975 (Class of 2006)

The Redskins 1975 eleven capped off the greatest four-year record in the history of Warren High School sports.  From 1972 to 1975 the Redskins captured thirty-two (32) straight league victories, won four consecutive championships, and finished on a high note by downing East Greenwich, 12-8, in the 1975 Class B Super Bowl.

Putnam, Connecticut was able to score twenty-four (24) points in a four-point loss, but other than that the 12-0 Warren High School team never allowed more than a touchdown in any game.  Four shutouts were recorded by the defense in defeats of St. Raphael, Central Falls, North Smithfield, and Tiverton.  And rival Bristol was annihilated, 42-8, Warren’s fifth consecutive win over the Colts.

Led by All Staters Jo-Jo Jamiel and Wayne Lachance, the Redskins won every league game by a minimum of eighteen (18) points.  In the Super Bowl, Jo-Jo fumbled a kickoff, picked it up, and ran it back for Warren’s first touchdown.  When he later scored what proved to be the winning TD, he tied the state scoring record of 206 points, originally set by Buddy Alves of West Warwick in the 1950s.

In addition to Jamiel and Lachance, the team included first team All Class B Small performers Peter Annarummo, Eric Delekta, David Lapre, Tony Longo, and Jim Provuncher; Larry McPhillips (second All Class B Small); Mike Abbruzzi, Vincent Acciardo, Mark Andreozzi, Kevin Bissell, Robert Caizzi, Brian Casey, John Chrupcala, Chuck Connolly, Mark Felag, Mke Godet, John Howell, Mike Huftalen, Noel Jackson, Doug Jamiel, Louis Lamora, Kevin Larue, Sean Lowney, Ken Munroe, Joe Penkala, Peter Primiano, David Provuncher, Steve Rogers, Dave Shears, and Phillip Simmons.

The team’s cheerleaders included Joan Chaves, Susan Gempp, Karen Girard, Linda Jenson, Kathleen Knowles, Debbie Luciano, and Cindy Moran.

Captained by Jo-Jo Jamiel and Annarummo, the eleven was coached by Pat Abbruzzi, who was assisted by Foxy Marshall, Dave Booth, and scout Jack Flynn.  Following the season, Pat was named Rhode Island High School Coach of the Year.

Pat Abbruzzi, Jack Flynn, Jo-Jo Jamiel, Larry McPhillips, and Joe Penkala are individual members of the Warren Athletic Hall of Fame.
