Per the Bristol Phoenix: “Bristol and Warren united in sports.  That’s news!” 

The Warren/Bristol Under 16 nine, coached by Bristol’s Archie Allen and Chet Massa, won the State Playground State Championship with a 6-2 defeat of the Pawtucket playground team.  In the title game, the Champions were led by star pitchers Slick Cariglia (W) and Mike DelPiano (B) and John Karcz’s (W) two hits.  

Other members of the team included Lou Alfano (W), Jim Barry (W), Bruno (B), Sal Carulli (B), Desmarais (B), Huck Henneberry (W), Matrone (B), Pinky Penkala (W), Zip Raiola (B), Harpo Tavares (W), Leon Urban (W), and Velleca (B).  

Barry, Cariglia, Henneberry, Karcz, Tavares, and Urban are members of the Warren Athletic Hall of Fame.
